Men's Health and Wellbeing:

Since leaving Datchet Health Centre, I have continued working as a GP in both NHS and private practice. One of the nicest surprises has been occasionally bumping into former Datchet and Wraysbury patients along the way. It is always good to catch up.

Having stepped away from the pressures of full-time general practice, I have found myself with more time to read, think and write. The subject that has increasingly captured my attention is men's health.

The more I have explored it, the more convinced I have become that it deserves far more attention than it receives. Men are more likely to die younger, develop preventable illnesses and seek help only when problems have become difficult to ignore. Yet much of the health information available is not really written with men in mind.

Over the past few years I have been researching and writing about these issues, partly as a doctor and partly as someone curious about why men make the choices we do. I have become fascinated by the gap between what the evidence tells us and what we actually do in everyday life.

What interests me most is not simply how men can live longer, but how we can stay healthier, stronger, more capable and more independent throughout our lives.

If there is interest, I would be happy to share occasional articles here on Datchet Eye.

Topics might include:

• Why Men Put Off Going to the Doctor

• The Five Things That Matter Most for Men's Health

• Why Men Die Younger Than Women

• Is It Ever Too Early or Too Late to Improve Your Health?

• Why Men Gain Weight, weight management and the truth about fat busting drugs

• Why Sleep Matters More Than You Think

• The Truth About Supplements

• Stress, Burnout and Always Coping

• What Exercise Really Gives You as You Get Older

• Age related testosterone decline

The list seems to grow every time I sit down to write.

Before I start posting, I would be interested to know whether this is something people would find useful. If there are particular topics you would like covered, please let me know in the comments on Datchet Eye.

If there is enough interest, I will start putting some articles together and share links through Datchet Eye. To keep them all in one place, the articles will be hosted on my website, where they will remain freely available for any Datchet Eye members who wishes to read them.
